Big Papou's® Mediterranean Rub was created over 75 years ago in an Astoria, New York kitchen by George 'Big Papou' Balsamides.
George was a Greek immigrant from Asia Minor who came to the United States in the early 1900's. He worked numerous jobs in the food industry, eventually becoming a gourmet chef for some of New York City's finest doctors. Experimenting with various herbs and spices to enhance the flavor of the meals he was preparing, George developed the recipe that is now Big Papou's® Mediterranean Rub. His recipe has been passed down from generation to generation, and is the first item to be sold by Balsam Products, our small family-owned company.
Not only is Big Papou's® a staple in our household, but it's also a family tradition.
